HARARE, January 15 (The Source) – The Caledonia Mining Corporation owned Blanket Mine achieved a record production of 56,135 ounces in 2017, 11,4 percent higher than the prior year and marginally higher than targetted.
The mine also recorded a new quarterly high of 16,425oz in the three months to December, 14 percent more than the previous quarter and 21 percent higher than the corresponding period in the prior year.
“2017 was a pivotal year for Caledonia as we announced our plans to extend the current central shaft project deeper with the resulting extension in mine life at Blanket following the encouraging exploration results that were achieved during the year,” said chief executive, Steve Curtis on Monday.
“This production achievement will set the business up well for 2018 as we target production of between 55,000 and 59,000 ounces of gold.”
Caledonia plans to ramp up production to 80,000oz by 2020.
