Live blog – Inauguration Day for E.D. Mnangagwa

HARARE, November 24 (The Source) – Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa will become president today, completing a comeback that seemed improbable three weeks ago when he was fired as vice president by the man he is replacing, Robert Mugabe.
His rise reads like a fairytale. After his dismissal he fled the country, fearful for his life, his firing prompting a military takeover and accelerating Mugabe’s demise. The 93-year old ended his 37-year rule on Tuesday after his party dismissed his as its leader and started impeachment proceedings against him.
Mnangagwa, for over 40 years one of Mugabe’s closest and trusted lieutenants, returned to Zimbabwe on Wednesday, declaring that Zimbabwe was entering a new era of democracy.
“The people have spoken. The voice of the people is the voice of God,” he told thousands of supporters on Wednesday evening.
A shattered economy awaits Mnangagwa while restoring investor confidence will have to be at the top of the agenda. The buy-in of the internationa community will be key and so far the noises from key allies have been positive. Mnangagwa has already spoken of receiving pledges of support’ from the international community, an abomination under Mugabe but can only be good for Mnangagwa.
Your turn to repay their faith Mr President….
