MUTARE, October 17 (The Source) – An independent power company, Nyangani Renewable Energy has invested $15 million to upgrade its three small hydro power stations in Honde Valley in the east of Zimbabwe.
Nyangani has three small hydro power stations, Nyamingura, Duru which produce 1.1 megawatts each and Pungwe which produces 3.85 watts. The power stations were built six years ago and supply power to the national grid.
Managing director Ian Mckersie told The Source on Thursday that it was upgrading Pungwe and Duru power stations to increase their output to 15MW and 2.7 MW respectively.
“We are building the second stage of the Pungwe project and this will be a 15MW run of river power station which, if all the deadlines are met, should be generating power by the end of 2014,” McKersie.
